Iron Ore Belt of North Carolina and its relation to Haw River State Park The area in the vicinity of the park is located within the Iron Ore Belt of North Carolina. The Iron Ore Belt consists of two northeast trending zones, identified as the Shaw belt (located northwest of park) and Tuscarora belt (located southeast of the park, Figure 1).


An ore deposit may be either of igneous or of sedimentary origin. Some deposits are related to metamorphic processes and are as such classified as deposits of metamorphic origin. Within these three broad modes of origin, a mineral deposit of economic value might have originated due to set of simple or complex processes. Types of Ore Deposits: 1.


Iron ore within the QF varies in terms of structural setting (low- vs. high-strain domain; Table 1), metamorphic grade of the country rocks (greenschist, amphibolite facies), host lithology (quartz-, dolomite- and amphibole-itabirite) and iron oxide mineralogy (magnetite, martite, granoblastic, microplaty, specular hematite and goethite; Table 1).
